A lot of people believe working efficiently and working effectively are the same, news flash: they are not!
Efficient means doing things with minimal waste while Effective means doing the right things.
If you could be either efficient or effective which would you choose?
People are so obsessed with the next productivity trick, hack, or app that’s going to make them work more efficiently.
But if you’re heading 100mph in the wrong direction, what’s the point?
If you are effective, but not efficient — you’ll move steadily, but not quickly, towards your goals.
If you are efficient, but not effective — you’ll move quickly in the wrong direction. The more you optimize, the more progress you make in the wrong direction.
Clearly one is more important.
If we don’t focus FIRST on doing the RIGHT thing, any time spent optimizing will bring us further in the WRONG direction.
Your job is to first be effective as this will point you in the right direction, then focus on efficiency as this will get you to your goal faster.
