Digital trust for novices

For those who aren’t aware, I work as a designer at ToNote. Every day, I’m tasked with communicating our brand goals and vision through visual mediums.

So I thought to Myself, that’s a pretty easy question to answer

*Drumroll*

I started “At ToNote we’re building an Africa where trust is made easy by creating an operating system for Africa’s system of agreement. We foster digital trust between transacting parties through technology”. I went on and on for about 10 minutes. She laughed and said, “blah blah blah”! Simply put, she had no idea what the majority of the words I had used meant.

According to her, as an average Nigerian she was allowed not to know the words I had just used. So in this article, I’ll be breaking down the Jargon involved in how we “ Foster digital trust in transactions”.

Firstly, What’s DIgital trust?

According to Jeffrey Ritte in 2019, digital trust is the confidence users have in the ability of people, technology, and processes to create a secure digital world. When a person decides to use a company’s product, they are confirming their digital trust in that business. In layman’s terms we’re using technology as a tool to make trust easy for people transacting with each other.

So how exactly does ToNote make trust easy during transactions?

Currently, we are creating a digital platform where customers securely connect with notaries, and swear affidavits (written statements from an individual which is sworn to be true) or notarise (to have the signature on a document witnessed by the notary ) and certify documents virtually. The platform also allows you to add any other third-party signer or witness to any agreement.

The platform has other offerings in the pipeline that will make it easier to trust when transacting online.

“Oh really? That’s cool!” My friend nodded.
